What is Conky?
Conky Manager V2.2 is a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for managing Conky's configuration files. Conky is free software that runs under X on Linux and BSD operating systems. Conky gives you the ability to display almost any custom tailored information on your desktop. Many pre-configured themes are available for Conky that allow you to display important system information relating to CPU, Memory, Disk, Network status, Weather in your area and much more.
To install Conky Manager, simply follow the steps below.
Install Conky Manager - Ubuntu Linux (And other Debian based systems)
To install the Conky Manager GUI on an Ubuntu Linux System simply issue the following commands from the console (Terminal):
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:teejee2008/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install conky-manager
After issuing the above commands, the Conky Manager should now be installed. To access the GUI, simply click on the dashboard icon in the upper left hand corner and type conky into the search box. You should now see an icon with the description "Conky Manager". To activate Conky, simply click on the icon and the Graphical User Interface will load as per the screen shot below:
Across the top of the Conky Manager Interface are various buttons that allow you to step through the available widgets, Start/Restart your Widgets, Stop a Widget, Edit Widget, Open Conky Configuration files in a text editor, Open a Theme Folder, Search for New Themes, Stop all widgets, import Theme Packs and modify Application Settings.
Underneath the main control panel are various buttons that allow you to Browse Themes/Widgets, Save currently running widgets as a new theme, filter a name or path, toggle Preview Widget or toggle List.
Preview a Theme/Widget
To preview a theme, simply highlight your choice and then press the Preview/List buttons. You should now see what the chosen theme or theme looks like. In the example below, The Theme "Green Apple Desktop" has been highlighted. Next you will need to click on the Preview/List buttons to see your chosen theme.
At the bottom of the screen, you will see a URL for the source of this particular theme. Simply click this link to find more details.
To Preview a widget(s) simply place a tick by clicking in the box to the left of the name. In the example below, a 2 Core CPU widget and conky_seamod have been chosen:
You may preview your choices again by clicking on the Preview/List buttons.
However, you should see your chosen widgets now on your desktop:
To make your chosen Theme or Widget display automatically at System Startup, you will need to click on the "Application Settings icon (Third from the right). You should now see an Application Menu appear:
Now click on the option "Run Conky at system startup" and make sure the options indicates "On".
Importing More Conky Themes
One of the options available from the list of icons is the option to import other Conky Themes and Widgets. These Version 2 Themes can be downloaded from the following web site: Conky Themes or from the following location: Download Conky Themes
Once you have downloaded your theme pack, simply click on the import theme icon from the main menu bar (Import Theme Pack *.cmtp.7z). Now select the location you downloaded the compressed file to. (By default this is probably your Downloads Folder). Now highlight the file "default-themes-extra-1.cmtp.7z" and click "open". Your new Themes/Widgets should import automatically. If successful, you will see the following message:
Your New Themes and Widgets should now be visible:
