For further information and to download the latest version of Linux Lite, click on the link below. (Note: 32bit and 64bit versions are available)
Download Linux Lite
Once you have downloaded your chosen "iso" image of Linux Lite in either the 32bit or 64bit version, you will need to burn this image to a DVD. For software that can do this, search for "dvd iso burning software" in the search box located above. Your system may already have DVD burning software installed such as "Brasero, K3B, Nero, CDBurnerXP or Roxio". Once you have burned your "iso" image of Linux Lite to your DVD, you will need to leave the DVD in the DVD drive and reboot your system (Assuming this is the intended PC). As your computer reboots, you will need to press the appropriate key to access your system's BIOS settings. On many computers this key will be either "F8", "F11" or "F12". Most systems will display the a message indicating which key needs to be pressed. Once you have access to your BIOS settings, you will need to modify the boot order of your system to boot from CD/DVD first. Once you have made this change, you can reboot your system and follow the settings below.
Starting Linux Lite
Linux Lite will begin to Load very quickly. You will soon be presented with a Live Desktop where you can take a quick look around before carrying out an installation.
Linux Lite - Live Desktop
Once Linux Lite has loaded, you will be shown a fully functioning Live Desktop. Here you can take a look around before you commit to an installation. Nothing will be installed to your computer until you click the install icon. Once you are ready to install Linux Lite, simply click on the installation icon in the upper left hand corner of the desktop.
At the Welcome Screen you must choose the language that you wish to use throughout this installation. You can also click on the link to read the accompanying release notes. In this example I have chosen the language "English" Once you have made your selection, click on the "Continue" option.
Preparing to Install Linux Lite
At this screen we are reminded that we need a minimum disk space of 5.3GB and that an active internet connection is required. I have also chosen the option to install third party software allowing MP3 files to be played. To select this option simply place a tick in the "Install this third party software" box. You may also choose to install updates during the installation. In this example I have not chosen this option. Next click "Continue".
Select Installation Type
At this next screen you will be given various installation options to choose from. In the example, I am going for the default option "Erase disk and install Linux". You can choose to Encrypt your hard drive for added security (recommended if this is a lap top installation). You may also choose the LVM option. If you wish to partition your hard drive manually you will need to select the "Something else" option. If the installer detects an existing Operating System, further options will be given. To continue with the installation click on the "Install Now" option.
Where are you?
Your geographic location should be found automatically. If not, type your location into the text box. In this example "London" is shown. Next click "Continue"
Select Keyboard Layout
At this screen you need to choose your keyboard layout. In the example I have chosen "English UK" as I am using an "English" layout keyboard. Your keyboard should be found automatically. You can test your keyboard settings by typing into the provided text box. Click "Continue".
Who are you?
At this screen you will need to provide the name of a new user, a name for your computer (hostname) and a password. Once you have entered your credentials, click "Continue".
