What is VLC?

VLC is a free open source media player that can play almost any media file, DVD and Video CD you own. VLC plays most codecs without having to install any additional Codec packages. You can play MPEG-2, DivX, H.264, MKV, WebM, WMV, MP3 files with no additional software downloads. An easy to use control panel allows you to modify audio, video effects, geometry, colour and convert to other formats.

To install VLC in Ubuntu, simply open the Ubuntu Software and type VLC into the search box. Next click on the install button and VLC will be installed immediately.
